Proof (also known as Derty Harry and Oil Can Harry) is a rapper and member of the rap group D12. Proof also doubles as Eminem's 'hypeman' and is a long time friend of his. Although Proof first rose to national prominence as a part of the D12 posse, he had actually been quite successful on his own prior to Eminem's breakthrough in the early 2000s. Most notably, he won The Source's 1999 Unsigned Hype award and came close to winning the 1998 Blaze Battle. In 2001, his profile soared with the release of Devil's Night, D12's debut album with Interscope Records, and the album's heavily aired radio hit, Purple Pills. The following year, Proof collaborated with Dogmatic for the Promatic album and joined Eminem's 'Anger Management' tour in support of the release. He also appears in the movie 8 Mile as Lil' Tic, the rapper B. Rabbit loses a battle to at the start of the movie. An interesting fact is that Proof was allegedly the only performer in the film to genuinely freestyle his battle verse; since the B. Rabbit character was to "choke" following the verse without responding, it was considered immaterial what L'il Tic rapped, as long as it stayed within character boundaries. Proof's real-life accomplishments as a freestyle rapper tend to support this claim. Proof released a solo effort entitled Searching for Jerry Garcia in 2005. He has also released his first single from the album titled Gurlz With Da Boom
